Schwietert Collazo, Julie

Cofounder and Director/Immigrant Families Together

Even if Julie did not create Immigrant Families Together, I would be nominating her as a Bright Light as a mom in her community.  But, Julie saw the need a few years ago for a then grass roots movement to unite the young families who were separated at the US border. Julie almost single-handedly raised the bond money, arranged for mom\’s travel and was personally present for the unification. There is now a network of angels doing this work which currently includes offering a continuum of services for the physical and mental health of the young children and their parents. There is barely a moment that Julie is not personally involved in an aspect of the process, – including visiting the children\’s camps at the Border and visiting the adult detention centers through the United States. Her healing hand and her heart have been instrumental in keeping a spirit of love alive for these individuals and the volunteers who serve.
