Mission
The New York State Association for Infant Mental Health (NYS-AIMH) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen and promote social and emotional well-being for all children between the ages of 0-5 in a relational context in New York State.
Purpose
NYS-AIMH promotes uniform and nationally recognized standards to ensure those engaged in the multidisciplinary fields supporting young children are trained in up-to-date science of child development and relationship-based practices. It provides professional development, creates a statewide competency system, and raises awareness about issues impacting young children and their families.
Our History
The New York State Association for Infant Mental Health (NYS-AIMH) was formed with one of its important goals to be the advancement of the system of standards and competencies now called in New York, the New York State Endorsement System.
Our People
The rapid growth of NYS-AIMH is credited to volunteers who have served tirelessly in developing and expanding our impact in the lives of young children and their families. Their focus and direction have also impacted the small paid staff to achieve goals and milestones in support of our mission.
We Are:
Part of the Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health
A group of 27 states and 1 international association who have implemented the Endorsement. These states work together to help shape policy and ensure that the system of competencies and standards for Infant Mental Health professionals is communicated nationally to professionals and institutions.
An Affiliate of the World Association of Infant Mental Health
WAIMH is a multidisciplinary international infant mental health organization which supports research, education and clinical intervention that promotes optimal mental health for very young children and their caregivers.
We are a 501 C3 organization, made up of a voluntary Board of Trustees and members and we are supported by part-time paid and voluntary staff.
