Denzel Apuzzie, a Child Care Aide at one of Safe Horizon’s emergency domestic violence shelters, is a Bright Light for children impacted by trauma. During the past two years in this role he has impacted over 220 children. Through his dedication and positive attitude, Denzel has supported children during some of their most vulnerable moments. Denzel offers them a safe, inviting space to play and learn. Once a child spends time with Denzel they cannot wait to return. He has organized pizza parties, holiday events, park outings, and educational activities to engage families with children of all ages. He is also a resource to their parents, offering relevant information to navigate school, daycare, etc. Denzel is a team player and valuable member of the staff who is well deserving of this award.
