What is Endorsement®?
I/ECMH Endorsement® is a competency-based credential recognizing specialized knowledge, skills, and experience in supporting relationships and mental health from the perinatal period through age six.
Developed by Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health (MI-AIMH) in 2002, Endorsement® is used internationally by thousands of professionals across disciplines, settings, and scopes of practice. Professionals anywhere may apply, and once earned, your Endorsement credential stays with you wherever your work or life takes you.
I/ECMH Endorsement® is one of the most comprehensive efforts in the country to define best practices and guide professional growth across disciplines and multiple levels in infant and early childhood mental health. Endorsement® promotes culturally sensitive, relationship-focused practice and is supported nationally by the IEMCH International Institute.
Pathways to Endorsment®
Endorsement® is designed to capture the diverse perspectives within the multidisciplinary field of I/ECMH. The various categories recognize the skills, knowledge, training, and scope of work/job responsibilities that align with best-practice standards. Endorsement® in any category is a meaningful demonstration of one’s earned wisdom and experience in the field of I/ECMH.
NYS-AIMH offers the Infant Mental Health Endorsement® (IMH-E®) for those working with prenatal through age 3, and the Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement® (ECMH-E®) for those working with ages 3-6. For detailed information about the requirements for each category, click here.
