Early childhood programs thrive when staff feel supported, seen, and connected to their work, their colleagues, and their leadership. Yet high stress, emotional labor, and systemic pressures often lead to burnout and turnover. This interactive 90-minute workshop explores how leadership practices, particularly relational and reflective approaches, play a critical role in sustaining staff and strengthening workplace culture.
Grounded in reflective supervision, trauma informed practice, and relational leadership principles, this session invites participants to examine how day to day leadership behaviors shape staff experiences of safety, belonging, and commitment. Participants will explore the internal and external demands of leadership, the impact of power and identity, and the parallel process between how leaders support staff and how staff support children and families.
Through guided reflection, discussion, and practical application, participants will identify the relational and organizational factors that contribute to staff retention and turnover. The session emphasizes connection over control, curiosity over reactivity, and culture as something created through consistent, intentional practices rather than policies alone.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Explore the connection between leadership practices, supervision, and staff retention in early childhood settings
- Identify relational, emotional, and organizational factors that contribute to burnout and turnover
- Develop actionable strategies rooted in reflection, connection, and shared responsibility to strengthen team commitment and workplace culture
