Self-Regulation, Appraisal and Reappraisal Seminar – March 12, 2025 12 noon – 1:30 pm

Self-regulation, or being able to successfully manage all the thoughts, feelings, and impulses we feel throughout the day, is vital for learning and connection. Stress, trauma, sensory needs (e.g., hunger or sensory overload) and unmet expectations can all contribute to dysregulation, which can disrupt healthy relationships and learning environments for both children and adults. Only a self-regulated caregiver can help a child who is dysregulated return to a calm, self-regulated state. How caregivers interpret and judge children’s behaviors is the first step in whether that caregiver can themselves stay self-regulated, feel able to meet the child’s needs, and take the right steps to meet the child where they are.

Join this interactive, skills-based session to explore:

a.  Self-Regulation: Learn about the components of self-regulation that apply for all ages. Explore evidence-based techniques to support young children and caregivers in managing challenging emotions and behaviors.

b. Appraisal and Reappraisal: Learn how to help providers and families reframe challenges and manage stress through positive appraisal techniques.
