Voices We Need to Hear: Cultural Listening Sessions

“Infant Mental Health & Native American Cultural Competency — The Intersection of Culture, Trauma, and Looking Ahead” 

Presented in two parts:  August 5th and August 12th

9:30 am – 12:30 pm each day in  Zoom

Pete Hill, ”All Our Relations” Special Initiatives Coordinator at Native American Community Services of Erie & Niagara Counties, Inc. (NACS) (www.nacswny.org) will guide participants to engage more successfully with Native Americans to support and nurture Infant Mental Health for infants and children, and their families. Pete has over twenty-eight years of service to the Native American and greater community in Buffalo/Niagara Falls, Western New York State, and beyond in a wide range of cultural, human services and prevention areas.  His work has included culturally-based programming, health promotion, Native language preservation, alcohol and substance abuse prevention, HIV risk reduction, teen pregnancy prevention, suicide prevention, and community mobilization. He has presented exceptional programs on Cultural Competency to a wide range of coalitions, organizations, and institutions.

In these two Listening Sessions participants will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of Native American cultures, diversities and histories
  • Learn about the significance of Trauma-Informed Care and Historical Traumas
  • Gain an understanding of residential boarding schools, and their impact on Native families and infant mental health
  • Consider how organizations can work more effectively and appropriately with Native families and infants
  • Access resources and additional information to enhance services for Native peoples and others

CEUS are available for this event! NYSED CEUsare provided by the UB School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education. 5.5 live online contact hours are approved for LMSW/LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, and LCAT. Full attendance is required; no partial credit will be awarded for partial attendance.

Cancelation Policy

No refund can be made for cancellation seven or fewer working days before the event or for no-shows.  Cancellations more than seven working days before a workshop will result in a refund, less a $15.00 cancellation fee.  Requests for refunds must be received in writing. 

 

All registered participants will be notified via email if there is a training/workshop cancellation.  Registered participants will be offered a full refund or registration in another offered training/workshop

 

NYS-AIMH Subscribers are not automatically members. NYS-AIMH Members are those individuals who have paid for a 1 or 2 year membership. Subscribers have agreed to be a part of our mailing list.
